Have you taken the time to map out family emotional patterns?

Why Create a Family Genogram?

A family genogram is a powerful tool for parents who want to better understand the emotional patterns passed down through generations. Rooted in Bowen Family Systems Theory, the genogram helps map out not just names and relationships, but the emotional connections, roles, and repeated behaviors within a family system.

By visualizing these patterns—such as anxiety, conflict, emotional cutoff, or overfunctioning—parents can begin to see how their own responses in parenting may be shaped by inherited dynamics. This insight opens the door to greater emotional awareness, healthier boundaries, and more intentional parenting. Rather than reacting out of habit or history, parents can make thoughtful choices that support connection, growth, and healing across generations.

Here's a simple DIY approach to mapping out your own family system. Ask your family mediator for help or bring to your family sessions. They'd love to support you.
