The Parent Line 2026
"Born To Shine" Series

Restorative walking sessions for parents and caregivers.
Pause. Reset. Grow.
The Born to Shine series invites parents to walk alongside siblings Lisa and Nick as they reflect on raising kids, family leadership, repair, and growth through movement, music, and conversation.
Come walk with us.
(It's free to join our leisurely walk with your earbuds.)
Sometimes parenting feels loud, fast, and overwhelming.
Sometimes it feels lonely.
And sometimes, it just feels hard to know what to do next.
The Born to Shine Series is an invitation
to slow down in 2026.
This experience began as a simple practice between siblings — Lisa and Nick — taking walks together, talking about kids, our family of origin and upbringing that influences today, parent responses and leadership, mistakes, repair, and growth. Lisa brings her doctoral work in restorative leadership and coaching. Nick brings his music, creativity, and reflection. Together, they walk — and they invite you to walk with them.
Not to fix your family.
Not because you’ve failed.
But because every family leader deserves space to pause, reset, and grow.
This unique series for 2026, Born to Shine, is for parents and caregivers who care deeply about their kids and families, even when things feel messy. Through walking, listening, reflection, and shared encouragement, we explore what it looks like to lead with understanding instead of reaction — and with humanity instead of perfection.
You can walk on a trail, on a sidewalk, or around your block.
You can walk alone, or with your significant other, or just with your thoughts.
There’s no right pace. No finish line.
This is not a program to complete.
It’s a practice to return to.
You are not alone.
Your willingness to reflect is key while your family’s story is still unfolding.
Welcome.
We’re glad you’re here — and we’re honored to walk alongside you.
Meet Lisa & Nick
Siblings Walking the Work Together
Dr. Lisa Welter and Nick Kohn are siblings and parents themselves who bring their shared history, lived experience, and complementary gifts into the Born to Shine journey. Together, they model what restorative leadership looks like when it is practiced—not perfected—inside real family systems.
The Born to Shine series unfolds as Lisa and Nick take intentional walks together—reflecting, listening, and inviting parents to join them. Their sibling dynamic mirrors the heart of the work: honest conversation, mutual respect, accountability, and grace.
Together, they invite families to slow down, stay curious, and lead with kindness—remembering that growth isn’t linear, leadership is practiced, and every family leader gets the chance to begin again.
Lisa Welter
Dr. Lisa Welter is a restorative leadership developer, coach, and systems thinker whose work is grounded in Bowen Family Systems Theory, conflict resolution and restorative practices. Through decades of experience working with families, youth, schools, and justice systems, Lisa has learned that sustainable change begins not with control, but with differentiation, non-anxious presence, and shared power.
Lisa brings a steady, thoughtful presence to the Born to Shine series—helping parents slow down, lead themselves first, and press the reset button when family dynamics feel stuck. Her approach is practical, compassionate, and deeply respectful of parents as the primary leaders in their homes. She believes growth is always possible and that every family leader has the capacity to pause, reflect, and grow forward.
Nick Kohn
Nick Kohn is a father of four teenagers—three daughters (18, 16, and 15) and a 12-year-old son—and a gifted singer, songwriter, poet, and author. He knows the beauty and strain of family life intimately, including the sacred chaos of shared bathrooms and early mornings.
Nick is known for being one of the most genuinely positive people you’ll meet—not because life has been easy, but because he meets it realistically and find the gold just beneath the surface. His optimism is grounded, earned, and honest. Through music and storytelling, Nick speaks to the highs and lows of life, holding struggle and hope at the same time while always celebrating what is good.
As a young person, Nick challenged authority and lived life on his own terms—sometimes at great cost. Through hardship, perseverance, and unmistakable moxie, he found his way forward. That journey gives him a voice that resonates deeply with teens, young adults, and parents alike. You'll resonate with his personality and smile with him.
Our Why
We walk together because leadership doesn’t happen in a vacuum—it happens in motion, in relationship, and in real life.
Walking slows the body and settles the nervous system. Side by side, rather than face to face, conversations feel safer. There is less pressure to perform, explain, or defend. Space opens for thinking, reflection, and honesty. For parents carrying the weight of family stress, this matters.
Born to Shine grew out of our shared belief that growth happens when we pause long enough to notice ourselves. Walking helps us do just that. Each step becomes an invitation to regulate, reflect, and choose how we want to lead—especially when family dynamics feel tense or stuck.
As siblings, and as family members ourselves, we know that leadership is shaped by both our history and our hope. We’ve walked through disagreement, repair, and growth together. We’ve learned that progress is rarely linear and that returning to the path matters more than getting it right.
Walking together also reminds us that parents are not meant to be fixed or evaluated. They are meant to be supported as leaders. When parents learn to lead themselves with clarity and calm, the entire family system begins to shift.
So we walk.
Not to arrive somewhere quickly.
Not to solve everything at once.
But to practice presence, restore connection, and grow—one step at a time.
And we invite you to walk alongside us. We would love your company.
